Last year India’s DoT (Department of Telecommunications) said that they would be opening the 3G spectrum in India. Recently it was confirmed that, 3G is coming at the end of this year. This was real good news for the mobile service providers in India and AirTel also went ahead and tested 3G applications in some of the big cities in India. According to the latest news from Telecom Tiger, the 3G policies by DoT will have a clause under which, the guys who are bidding for the 3G spectrum need to have a prior experience of one year in the telecommunication sector. This might be a major turn-off for new entrants in the Indian telecom sector. Like for example, Videocon is ready to launch itself into the telecom sector of India and has entered into tie-ups for launching 3G services, but this new clause will certainly push Videocon back in the Indian 3G race.
