Nokia will soon be launching its Nokia Tube with touch screen Symbian OS. Symbian, though dominantly used only by Nokia, it is also used in mobile phones manufactured by Samsung. The Samsung INNOV8 or the i8510 from Samsung, which sports a 8 mega pixel snapper and is pretty fundu and costly phone runs on Symbian. According to CNET Asia, Symbian's APAC regional head, Mehmood Kalantar, has said that, Symbian is working on a touch screen OS and next year it can be hopefully seen in a Samsung mobile phone. By the way Mr. Mehmood, we are still waiting to see Symbian Touch Screen OS in the Nokia Tube.
Nokia will soon be coming up with its supposedly iPhone killer Nokia Tube. Tube will bring touch screen Nokia devices to mass market. Here are few things that you need to know about the upcoming Nokia Tube.
It's no iPhone beater
At first, it looked like this could finally be Nokia's touchscreen answer to the iPhone. Alas, leaks of the so-called Tube, or 5800 XpressMusic to give it its real title, suggest it will actually be a mid-range blower. Why? Well with Nokia the biggest player in the mobile world, they reckon they can turn average Joe's onto touchscreen tech and build from the bottom. And there's a good chance it'll work.
It won't be multitouch
Being mid–range, Nok has said it won’t come with the same multitouch tech you find in the iPhone. Instead, you can expect the Symbian S60 Touch system to use haptic feedback, just like the LG Viewty and Samsung Tocco. That means you’ll be able to tell when you’ve hit the screen – but you won’t be able to twist pics with your fingers,
It'll do over-the-air downloads
Nokia Comes With Music is set to take off this winter, and you can bet your entire gadget collection that the 5800 XpressMusic will be one of a string of handsets toting the subscription store. That means you’ll be able to grab as much music as you like from the every major label except EMI. And you can be sure that any downloads you want to snag will wing their way to you using 3G, especially with rival O2 launching their own tie–up with Sony BMG earlier this month.
It won't cost the earth
Being your regular mid–level Nok, the Tube will almost certainly come free on contract. And we’re not talking an iPhone 3G–style deal, where you have to pony up £45 every month for the privilege of having the phone in your pocket. Plus, it won’t be shackled to one network, giving Nokia the chance to work their magic and get it into every mobile–loving mitt in the country.
It’ll take touchscreen to the masses
Because it’s not taking the iPhone on, Nok can afford to let the Tube go for cheap. And because of that (and it’s sharp styling if its appearance in The Dark Knight is anything to go by), everyone will want to get on the bandwagon. And as soon as everyone understands how touchscreens really work (we’re talking your Mum and Dad rather than us gadget geeks), then Nok will take over the world. Don’t count against it.

The Nokia 5800 Tube, which will be coming soon but Nokia has already showed the phone in the new Batman flick the Dark Knight. Dark Knight by the way is the number one movie on IMDB with a rating of 9.6 from 69,000 votes. What better way than this to connect Nokia Tube with the Dark Knight, both winners in their field. Morgan Freeman uses the Tube in the movie and everybody is wondering how come it is bing shown in the movie when its not officially released. May be this is some gimmick from Nokia, to create more hype about the Tube. People are swearing that the phone that is shown is the Nokia Tube and cant wait to get their hands on the same. Also, the screenshots of the Symbian S60 Touch UI have also been leaked and it seems that the UI has screen rotation functionality and that means the Nokia Tube will have a built-in accelerometer.

Apple launched their much awaited 3G iPhone last week at the WWDC 2008. In his keynote address, Steve Jobs, compared the 3G capabilities of iPhone, with that of Nokia’s best multimedia flagship product, the Nokia N95 8GB. Steve showed how iPhone loads the same web page that is also opened in the N95, faster. Now Mr. Jobs, agreed that your 3G is fast but then why didn’t you compare the multimedia features of your iPhone 3G with that of the Nokia N95 or you were just not ready to see what happens when you compare the iPhone 3G and the Nokia N95 8GB on multimedia front.
Anyways, as of now, Nokia need not worry about the 3G iPhone toppling its position. But the way industry is moving and multi touch interfaces are popping up, Nokia is also gearing up to take the iPhone head-on. The Nokia Tube is being increasingly touted as the iPhone Killer from the Finnish giant. Live pics of Nokia Tube also surfaced some time back. As the rumors about the Tube are building up Nokia has finally confirmed that they would be launching the Nokia Tube in the Q4 of 2008. Nokia doesn’t have any phones in its portfolio that compete directly with the iPhone and can pose a threat to it. Also, Apple has made the market very much competitive by announcing two things @ the WWDC, first, $199 for 3G iPhone and 70 countries getting their 3G iPhones by the end of 2008. Nokia knows this that the market is becoming very much competitive and they are getting ready for it. They have the scale and the expertise. Also, Nokia would not have taken the N95, iPhone comparison lightly and the company is very much positive about their upcoming S60 Touch and the Nokia Tube. Nokia Tube by the way is supposed to have features, that will make the iPhone look small.
