iSuppli has reported the Q1 mobile handset figures. The best thing is though there is an economic slowdown going on, the mobile handset market is not affected at all. Shipments of mobile phones have increased by double digit percentage as compared to 2007. 296 million mobile phones were shipped in the first quarter of 2008 with the top 5 mobile handset players remaining the same. Nokia dominated the global mobile handset market but they are still struggling in North America, also their global market share came down by 1%.Motorola is still having tough times in the mobile handset market and Samsung is standing firm at its number 2 spot all thanks to Motorola. Sony Ericsson, surprisingly, moved to 5th position and LG has moved to fourth as compared to Q1 of 2007. I told you about Sony Ericsson struggling in its mid to high-end range of phones. From a industry point of view, this has been a good quarter and Nokia is ost 1% of their market share, by the way Samsung is catching pace with Nokia, especially in the emerging markets, where Nokia has a strong foothold.
