The biggest disappointment is going to come for people in India on August 18th 2008, the launch date of 3G iPhone in India. According to sources the iPhone 3G is going to cost Rs. 31,000 on Vodafone connection, much costlier than what it costs in the US. The phone will come 2G enabled in India and 3G will be disabled by default. Now, there is an ongoing debate whether the service provider activates the 3G free of cost once 3G spectrum goes live in India. The 16 GB model will cost around Rs. 34,000. Now who the hell is going to spend so much money, if this news is confirmed then I doubt whether there would be any takers for this gadget from Apple???

“Nokia is going to introduce many new phone models through U.S. carriers in coming months to grab a bigger share of the lucrative cell phone market, the Finnish phone maker said on Monday. "In the next few months (U.S.) operators will carry a lot of new products from us," Alastair Curtis told the paper.”

After the Nokia N95 made its way into US, now it’s the turn of N95 8GB. The phone is made available in US through Nokia stores. At least this time Nokia must be expecting to gain some market share in the US market with the help of the N95 8GB version.

Nokia is present in the US market and is not doing so good; contrary to what it is doing all over the world. The company will be launching 6-12 new phones in the US market, this year. These phones will be operator specific. The phones will be made available in the first as well as the second half of the year 2008. Nokia wants to gain market share doing by doing these product launches in the US, as it is fourth mobile handset player ranked after Motorola, Samsung and LG. May be the company wants to improve it ranking for the year 2008-09.Lets see.

Finally, India has become the second largest market for Nokia in terms of sales and guess what we have gone ahead of United States and now India is competing with China for the number one position.
From Nokia press release - "Nokia, the world leader in mobile communications, today announced that India has become the second largest market for Nokia in terms of sales, going past the United States in the quarter ended June 2007. Over the last three years, India has been gaining significant ground Year on Year moving from No 4 position in 2005 to No 3 position in 2006 and is today poised right behind China."
Also, the Chennai factory exports phones to 58 countries across Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

This is what Nokia's CEO, Mr. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo had to say on this ,"India is playing an increasingly important role in the global economy buoyed by impressive economic growth, skilled manpower and tremendous business opportunity. As the market leader in devices and infrastructure, Nokia is committed to build the telecom ecosystem in the country and foster the creation of a favorable environment for collaboration and economic development."

No wonder Nokia has also opened its first design center Bangalore, India. Everybody wants to be a part of India's growing economy. With so much happening in our country and so many companies coming to India, we will no longer be a developing country. Beware China...here we come!!!!!
