Nokia bought over Symbian and announced the formation of the Symbian Foundation along with some big wigs of the mobile industry. Symbian Foundation will focus on bringing open mobile environment to Symbian, world’s most preferred smart phone OS. The formation of Symbian Foundation was a surprise and open source guys like LiMo, Lips, Android etc took a note of it as now they have a new participant in the race of open source mobile platforms. The initial Board Members of the Symbian Foundation consist of AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone, together with Symbian Limited. According to the latest developments 9 more companies have joined the Symbian Foundation. Semiconductor company Marvell plus services and software providers Aplix, EB, EMCC Software, Sasken ,TietoEnator and mobile operators, 3, America Movil and TIM have joined the Symbian Foundation. The Symbian Foundation announced that they will be launching their first handset in 2010 and with growing membership it seems that the Foundation’s handset dreams are not too far.
