Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

Yesterday, the much awaited V40.0.005 Firmware update was made available for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. If you have still not updated the Firmware of the 5800 then you can do it by either using the Nokia Software Updater. The Over The Air updater wont work for this update (same like it was with the recent E72 update). The update brings much awaited Kinetic Scrolling to the 5800, which came on the N97 and the N97 Mini sometime back. Nokia had been working on this update for the 5800 from quite some time and finally they have made it available. Here is what you will be getting to see once you update your phone -

-Kinetic Scrolling finally!! (But Partial)

-Improved touch screen response

-Landscape version does not have a alphanumeric keypad now, when you turn the phone you will get a QWERTY keypad

-If you loved the home screen of the Nokia 5530 then no problemo, you got the same home screen now on the Nokia 5800 with 20 contacts

-The phone has become more robust and stable and when used the phone did freeze

-More Secure

-Updated Nokia Messaging

-OVI Contacts pre-installed

-New screen alarm when locked

As you can see that some of these were the most awaited features for the Nokia 5800 and yeah, its a huge upgrade over the previous Firmware.

Nokia 5800 did well in India in terms of sales and in the last few months the price of the phone has been dropping regularly, which has helped in sales. Existing users of the 5800 were very much disappointed with the touch screen phone experience of the 5800 when they saw the Nokia 5530 and the Nokia N97 and N97 Mini but now with this Firmware update, I am sure they wont feel left out. If you guys can find some more changes in your Nokia 5800 after the update then do let us know in comments.

Daily Mobile reports that the Nokia 5800 just received an update. One of their forum members got the new update on his Nokia 5800. Head over and see whats new in the update apart from the improved touch screen response.

Nokia today unveiled its newest Comes With Mobile phones called the Nokia X6 and Nokia X3. Both these phones are targeted towards music lovers and will only come with Comes With Music. Both these phones target people who are hoked to music as well as social networking. The X6 features a 3.2 inch touch screen interface with 16:9 wide-screen and 32GB of on-board memory. So the leak about Nokia X Series, which surfaced sometime back was real. Coming back to the X6, the phone is optimized for photos, videos, Internet browsing and all the multimedia you want on your phone. The phone is a social junkies dream as it puts 20 friends and virtual communities like facebook on your home screen. I hope with this phone, Nokia has improved its touch screen experience, which sucks on the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia N97.

Via Nokia Press Release - Jo Harlow, Vice President, Nokia, commented: "The Nokia X6 and Comes With Music is a powerful combination, enabling music fans to download all the music they could ever want - quickly, easily and for free. We're giving people convenient access to and ownership of a vast music library and an exciting new touchscreen device to play their music on."

Nokia X3 is the younger brother of the Nokia X6 and is the first S40 phone with Ovi enabled services. It has a sliding form factor with 3.2 meg snapper and FM radio. The music output is powered by built-in stereo speakers. It has a 2.2 inch touch screen, 16 GB of storage and also an active home screen, which shows contacts, friends and music that is playing.

Nokia has showcased another touch screen phone today that follows the footsteps of the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia 5530. Welcome the Nokia 5230 XpressMusic, which surprisingly has already made its way to India along with the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. The Nokia 5230 is loaded with multimedia entertainment features, the phone sports of a media bar and will also come with Comes With Music service in some of the countries. The media bar lets the user quickly access his/her favorite media and applications like movies, photos, music, YouTube videos, Ovi Share. The handset also features a contacts bar with 20 of your friends and shows info like call history, emails, messages, social media updates etc. The phone looks promising in terms of features and will hit the stores in Q4 2009. The price of the handset has been fixed as Euro 149 and Euro 259 [Comes With Music] version.

Nokia India has announced the launch of two new XpressMusic handsets in India. The Nokia 5230 and the Nokia 5530. Nokia 5230 looks just like the Nokia 5320 and is being positioned by Nokia as a music handset that is affordable. Surprisingly the Nokia 5230 is launched in India as well as around the world simultaneously, which is very unlikey of Nokia. Like for Nokia 5530, the handset started selling across different countries before today when it was officially launched in India. Coming to the Nokia 5230, which is loaded with multimedia entertainment features, the phone sports of a media bar and will also come with Comes With Music service in some of the countries. From Nokia's Press Release,

"Visiting the Ovi Store from the Nokia 5230 is a breeze. Ovi Store is conveniently accessible from the home screen of the phone and customers can immediately begin downloading and personalizing their phones with popular apps and games to make their phone more fun. New apps, games, videos, and more are added regularly and Ovi Store can be enjoyed on more than 75 Nokia devices and has active users from more than 180 countries. The Nokia 5230 features an easy to use music player with 33 hours of playback time. In select markets the Nokia 5230 will include Comes With Music service offering truly unbeatable value with all you can eat music. The recommended price of the Nokia 5230 with the Comes With Music service will be 259 EUR before subsidies and taxes. For a mighty music experience, any headphones with a 3.5mm AV connector can be used. In addition, the Nokia 5230 features a Media Bar with quick access to your favorite media and applications, such as music, photos, YouTube or Ovi Share. "

Coming to the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, which is the third touch screen phone from Nokia in the recent times. Much has been said about the handset since the day it leaked and was mistaken as the Nokia Kenzo or the Nokia 5900. No its not, its just the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, which started shipping almost a week back and has now been launched in India. The Nokia 5530 is the younger sibling of the popular Nokia 5800, but has some nice features that might make it more likable than Nokia 5800. Check out the hands-on video with the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic and also how the handset fairs when compared to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Guys do you remember the Nokia 5900 XpressMusic, another sleek touch screen version of the Nokia 5800 XM, that leaked a few months back. Well, after leaking on a Chinese Site, that phone never came out, when Nokia phones generally launch withing few months of their leakings ;-) . Anyway, there was also a rumor that Nokia 5900 was a hoax and the leaked phone was actually Nokia 5530, which was launched by Nokia and has now started shipping officially. There was still no sign of the Nokia 5900 and then one more touch screen from Nokia by the name 5800i leaked and everybody was in a dilemma whether Nokia 5900 was the Nokia 5800i?? Well it is getting very confusing whether Nokia 5900 is a myth or reality until I read this story, which tells that, Nokia 5900 XM does exist and is a very sleek version of the Nokia 5800. The picture above is the first leaked picture of Nokia 5900. The Nokia 5900 will be launching at the Nokia World Event 2009 along with a sleek and small Bluetooth keyboard, which can be coupled with the phone and used. Hmmm, sounds interesting and like others, I am also eagerly waiting for this event, which will kick-off in few weeks from now. I guess the mystery behind Nokia 5900 would be solved at this event. Nokia had already indicated long time back that it would flood the market with touch screen phones in all ranges and we got the Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Nokia 5530 and now three new are coming soon, N97 Mini, Nokia 5800i and Nokia 5900.

To cash in on the popularity of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia has reduced the price of the handset significantly. The phone launched at a price point of around 22,000 INR then the price went down to 19,000 INR and now Nokia has made the handset available for 17,499 INR. This is a huge price drop and guess this new pricing will fuel the sales of this handset. Though the handset, does not give touch UI experience that is at par with the iPhone's UI but some of its features are way ahead of iPhone and guess thats what is driving the sales of this handset. Last week I had a talk with a Nokia reseller and according to him, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is doing pretty well in my city, Bangalore. The price cut will add more to its happiness. This move from Nokia might also be a response to the recent sales tax hike by the government of Maharashtra, which has left mobile phone resellers, companies and users unhappy.

If you are a hardcore Nokia fan and love their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, then you might be happy after reading this story. Winamp has now made available, a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic skin for your player, which looks really cool. If you ask me, most of the Winamp skins look pretty good, so whats so special about this skin apart from having normal playback, file select, shuffle, repeat etc functions. Well, this skin is pretty interactive just like your Nokia 5800. If you remember, Nokia 5800 comes with built-in applications that let you play the Piano, Guitar and Drums. Well this skin will let you do the same, so while your song is playing in the background you can activate the skin's piano, guitar or drums. Well, i have tried it and have realized that, unless you are some super sonic mouse clicker and know how to play these instruments, you will be just screwing around with the song playing in the background. But none the less, you should try it once to get a hang of it. Download the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Skin for Winamp. If you are one of the losers who does not know what Winamp is, then you can download the latest Winamp player here.

Nokia launched its newest mass market touch screen music phone, the 5530 XpressMusic yesterday at the Nokia Connection 2009. The phone, which has no 3G, but all the functions and features of its well known big brother, Nokia 5800 will be priced in India around INR 13K to 14K. I stumbled across some live pics of the phone on ePrice and though why not share my thoughts on these pics with all my readers.

The front look of the 5530 is a bit different and I liked it as compared to the front look of the Nokia 5800. The 5530 has some kind of mesh design on it where as there is no design on the Nokia 5800. Looks a bit bland. Also they have changed the Call, End Call and Menu button on the 5530. It is better than the 5800, where there are just three buttons with three back lights, green, white and red.

The backside of the Nokia 5530 is more interesting than the 5800 with some kind of flowery design. I am not sure if Nokia is planning to give XpressOn covers with the 5530, if yes then thats a damn good idea. Even the camera position has changed in the 5530, its in the top center now as compared to the top left based camera of the 5800. No changes in the camera specs of both the phones.

On the left hand side both the phones have slots for the memory card as well as the SIM card. There is also a slot for keeping the stylus, which I think comes pretty handy while using the 5800, as the phone sometimes is not that responsive to your fingers.

Again no change in the right side buttons of the Nokia 5530. There are three buttons, which let you controls volume, lock/unlock the phone/screen and take pictures.

There is a major change here in the design of the Nokia 5530. If you see, Nokia 5800's top side was cluttered with charging slot, power button, 3.5 mm standard head phone jack and USB slot. But in 5530, Nokia has made it less cluttered (see the picture) and moved the entire thing at the bottom of the phone. Thats nice, guess Nokia heard the pleas of lots of Nokia 5800 users.

Nokia has made the homescreen of the 5530 more interesting and interactive with the Contacts bar that shows 20 of your contacts and you can scroll through them, this was not possible with the 5800. The shortcut bar has moved to the bottom of the phone and the home screen now looks more geeky, which I really like as I hate the plain look of any home screen.

The menu view of both the phones looks almost identical and I am not sure if there will be much enhancements in the menu in the 5530 as compared to the Nokia 5800. Overall, 5530 looks as promising as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and mass market appeal is its biggest advantage.

Nokia has announced the Nokia E72 and the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic at the Nokia Connections 2009 event in Singapore.

E72 is the successor of the E71. E72 leaked yesterday on the video channel of Nokia Conversations. Nokia E72 is a well deserved successor of the E71 with 5 mega pixel camera, 3.5 mm standard head phone jack, which was much needed by many of the E71 users, guess Nokia listened to what E71 users were expecting. Other features include, optical mouse type of navigation pad, 10.2 mbps HSDPA. The phone has lifetime access to Nokia messaging with ease of integration with Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, Ovi and other mail and IM services. The phone seems to be a huge upgrade over the E71, which is known to be very robust and easy to handle E Series phone. Lets see what are the Initial reaction when E72 hits the market.

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the other phone that Nokia launched at Connection 09. The 5530 XM comes after the 5800 XpressMusic that was launched last year and was Nokia's first touch screen music phone. 5530 XpressMusic is also a fully touch screen phone and the biggest upgrade that comes over the 5800 XpressMusic is new improved home screen and contacts bar. Rest of the features look almost like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Apart from this on the 5530 you can also customize your own 4 screen shortcuts, which was not there in the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. As Nokia had hinted earlier that they would be launching cheap touch screens, Nokia 5530 will be retailing at Euro 199 or INR 13,288, which is pretty affordable as compared to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, which at a price point of INR 19,000 is doing pretty well in the Indian market. Check out the video below to know more about the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

Remember Nokia 5630 XpressMusic, the Symbian S60 music phone that was launched by Nokia earlier this year. Nokia 5630 is the successor of Nokia 5320 XpressMusic, which I have already reviewed and kind of liked that phone. Hope the 5630 is better as compared to Nokia 5320. Nokia 5630 is a compact phone but its specifications pack a solid punch backed by WLAN support, processing power with 600 MHz ARM 11 CPU. For features like this the pricing of the phone at Euro 255 is a value for money. Other features include, 3.2 mega pixel snapper with LED flash and fixed focus, stereo Bluetooth, FM with RDS, 4GB microSDHC card support. The phone is a true music phone with 24 hrs music playback time.

Nokia 5800 gets Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 update. This update is a standalone update and it does not come with the update of your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic firmware, so its very surprising indication that, updates like this would be more frequent now for Flash Lite. Updated Adobe Flash Lite gives you improved Web Browsing experience to most of today's websites and blogs, Flash 9 support, Improved memory handling for images, support for MP3 streaming, hardware acceleration and Linux Reference port. [Via] With this update it is clear that now Nokia 5800 will become ready for improved web browsing experience and online multimedia like music and movie streaming. Maybe thats what it needs now to take the iPhone's Internet browsing capabilities head-on apart from an improved touch screen.

This picture is of the rumored new phone from Nokia, the Nokia 5900, which got leaked yesterday on a Chinese site related to mobile phones. The pictures of the phone are everywhere now. As the name says, the phone is the successor of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the first touch screen from Nokia, which did pretty well, though it failed to kill the popularity of the iPhone, I guess people started liking the iPhone's touch screen more after they used the Nokia 5800. Anyway, Nokia 5900 has a more advanced capacitative touch screen, 3.5 inch screen, Symbian S60 version 5 touch UI and the phone seems to be slimmer than the Nokia 5800. You can also see the words XpressMusic written on the top right corner of the phone, they way they are written on the Nokia 5800. If you check out the front of the phone, there are just three buttons, like the Nokia 5800 but this time Nokia has marked the buttons properly (Nokia 5800 had just three buttons in the form of dashes, Red, Green and Blue). It seems that, when designing these buttons, Nokia took inspiration from Samsung. Some of the fully touch screen phones from Samsung have these kind of buttons.

Anyway, there is still a question mark about the authenticity of this phone and as always it happens with leaks and rumors, there is no official word from Nokia on this phone. But I have a strong feeling that this phone is from Nokia and its the successor of the Nokia 5800, the proof being the red and blue thin lines that run around the border of the phone, just like the Nokia 5800, the back side of the phone is very similar to the Nokia 5800. The phone is wider than the Nokia 5800 and if you look at the white one, it looks a bit like the white E71. By the way, there was a news that, Nokia is planning to get capacitative touch screen for the Nokia 5800, you never know, Nokia just made a new phone!!!

Nokia has launched a new outdoor campaign to promote its immensely popular touch screen XpressMusic device, Nokia 5800. The campaign has been launched in the UK. Like in India, the phone has become popular among users in UK and Russia. Nokia has sold 3 million units of the Nokia 5800. This number was wrongly reported as 13 million by one of Nokia's personnel ion North America and everybody's mouth was wide open. Anyway, coming back to the campaign, Nokia is been advertising the phone as UK's number one selling portable music player. Nokia 5800 is made for music and Nokia is again emphasizing this fact with this outdoor campaign. Portraying Nokia 5800 as a portable music player, helps Nokia in pitching against the iPhone as well as the iPod touch....Pretty Clever!!1

Phat^Trance of Daily Mobile always has some good news and scoops when it comes to mobile phones. This time he has got his hands on a scoop, which has come from a reliable source of his. According to his source, Nokia will soon be releasing a new Touch screen XpressMusic phone the 5530. This phone will be based on S60v5, will have 2.9 inch touch screen, 3.2 mega pixel snapper and 3.5mm standard headphone jack. There is already a strong rumor that, Nokia is planing to release three new touch screen phones this year. So I guess, Nokia 5530 will be one of them and might see an official pat on its back during the Nokia World Event in September.
