If you are a hardcaor fan of movies, IMDB is like a bible for you and lot of other guys who breathe movies. Over the years, IMDB has also made sure that they change based on the changing user requirements and with all this iPHone and smart phone thing kicking in, you started getting IMDB apps on iPhone, Android and for other smart phones. The best of the lot is the IMDB app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, its unbelievable and unbeatable according to me. You get IMDB on Android too and now they have come up with an updated app for Android based devices. Here is what you get in the new updated app,
- International Showtimes: Find local showtimes in 13 countries, including Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand.
- Entertainment news: Read thousands of articles from hundreds of media outlets.
- Widget: Get the latest top news. (Note: It won’t work if the app has been moved to SD)
- Intents: Developers are invited to open activities in our app from their apps.
- Move to SD: The IMDb app can be moved to your SD card.
Also I am sure their app for Android Honeycomb (Android designed for tablets) will rock as much as their iPhone app.
After OEMs are driving users mad by launching complex smart phones day in and day out, now it's the time of App stores. Couple of years back, there were one or two notable app stores, one of them being the app store for Symbian. Today, if you see, you have Symbian's Ovi, Apple App Store, Google's Android Market, RIM's Blackberry App store and there is GetJar, which is another independent app store for different mobile platforms. Almost a week back, Amazon also announced that they are opening up their independent App store for Android and now to add to this app store madness, Opera has launched it's own app store but it's not for only one kind of mobile platform. The Opera Mobile App Store, which is launched in partnership with Appia, will focus on free and paid apps for Android, Blackberry, palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian and yeah, there are Java apps too. One upper hand, which Opera has being a late starter in the mobile apps race is that, it's app store in accessible to almost 100 million mobile users out there who use Opera as a browser on their mobile phones/smart phones. Pretty cool huh!! And on the top of that, every user will have a different interface of the store based on his/her mobile operating system. This saves time for the user where he does not have to browse through hundreds of apps to figure out, which apps will work on his/her phone. The Opera Publisher Portal will be for developers from where they can submit their apps to this store. Four years back only Apple had the vision for mobile app stores, yeah, yeah, I know there was GetJar but still!! The way Apple has changed the face of app stores and touch screen phones on this earth, it's unbelievable.
