Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

One of its kind Mobile Phone Blog, that gives you views and news about mobile phones from India and across the world. I am in love with Nokia and their phones but I also write about other mobile guys. Think Mobile..Think NAMP!!!!

Now Indians don’t need to buy iPhone illegally or from the wrong channel. Apple will be launching the iPhone in India in the month of September this year. The company has also finalized the mobile service provider with whom the company will tie up for the launch, Vodafone is the lucky one. iPhone coming to India news came to me via a confidential source and also in Business Standard, Apple going with Vodafone was a surprise for me.
Business Standard reports that, the people in Apple Singapore have confirmed that iPhone will be coming in 2008 to India but not the month. Apple has also confirmed that initially the 8GB version of the iPhone will be launched at a price point of 28,000 INR, the buyer response will be evaluated and then the other versions will be launched in India, most probably my next year mid India will have all the version of the iPhone.

Most probably Vodafone will be the carrier for iPhone in Australia so there is a probability that Apple with go with them in India also. Indians are already going crazy over iPhone and getting the unlocked versions by hook or crook, but now it wouldn’t be long that they can purchase a iPhone legally and if the deal with Vodafone works out in India then the service provider is poised to see some hay days in India. But I think that before coming to India, will be launched in Singapore and then immediately in India..What say???

Update: After some discussion with my friends, it seems that in India iPhone will go with AirTel and not Vodafone, deep down I also feel that it should go with AirTel.

    hey bro,
Thats gr8 news ....:) ..but if the it is going to cost around Rs 28000/- then the product might not attract the market. When people are getting the iPhone Unlocked version for $300 in other countries, why do they prefer it in India...It is also heard that ,apple is going to shed down the prices..wat do u say abt this???

@Bobby, yeah you are righ 28,000 some price man, but the thing is that the kind of functions that iPhone provides people will easily pay the price, when people in India are buying the N82 and N95 8GB which cost 24,000 and 27,000 respectively then why not iPhone. To answer your 2nd question that when you get iPhone from US at 300$ then why Indian iPhone, see the US iPhone is unlocked and it might crash anytime, where as legally purchased iPhone can be easily upgraded with latest software. I don't think so apple will shed price, may be once they launch and see that the market response is great they might do that but Apple doesn't have the history to cut down the prices of its products to increase sales

Inside scoop eh!! Piper Jaffrey says Airtel could be the possible Indian carrier and Telstra could be the possible Australian counterpart.. But PJC are not God..maybe your source is Mr. Jobs himself ;)

No man , my source is not Jobs, Business Standard say it will be Vodafone but I think or rather you can say I ams sure it will be Airtel lets see, but I think in Australia it will be Vodafone!!!

u r write..but one thing to ne is that ..apple will cut down the prices when a new version of the same product is launched. So indirectly it is increasing the sales of the older version and also under rating itself....If the product is really of that worth, then there is no necessity to cut down the prices...what do u say

@Bobby - see iPhone 8GB and 16GB will be launched at different prices points. Apple will launch the iPhone versions with higher memory only when the 8GB version does well in the Indian market. When a company is cutting down prices it does not mean that it is underrating itself there are many factors like competing products, technological developments, similar technologies penetrating the market, which force a company to cut down on prices

this is iPhone we are talking about and I absolutely had to comment: At 28,000 I will have to sell myself before i can buy this... the unlocked version available in US is priced at $399 if they maintain this differential then it's not going to help them penetrate the Indian subcontinent... but then apple is known to make weird choices... apart from that they should be carrier independent... India still does not have number mobility and people will not shift numbers just for a bite of apple...

I hope the network the iphone is launching on has better speeds than the edge network in US. Its ridiculous having to wait for the connection and speed times.

That said, its time someone looked at the MicroVision PICO projector as an addon option to the Iphone.
