According to Cellular News, Nokia India's Director has said that India will be having 500 million mobile phone users by the year 2010. The striking fact is that 60 million of these will have mobile phones with video capability and 100 million will have music enabled phones. With all these attractive statistics, Nokia has made sure that they are well equipped with taking a major share of this market. To tap this huge market Nokia has taken lot of steps like VAS, investing in the Chennai manufacturing plant and increasing the production of this plant. Nokia wants to be ready for the mobile boom that is slowly coming to India. Low cost handsets are also a high priority for Nokia when it comes to the Indian market and no other mobile phone company in the the world has been able to crack the low cost handset market in India like that of Nokia.

Nokia can compete only at the mid and lower level of the markets. In terms of innovation and design they have become complacent.
