Nokia, the pioneer and leader in the world of mobile phones is really not doing well in terms of market share growth and penetration. Since last 2 years the company has been facing stiff competition from the likes of Apple, RIM and new OSs like the Android. Mobile phone users or should I say, smart phone users around the world have evolved with the availability of new platforms and hardware and Nokia is not able to keep it self up to date with the needs of such users.Recently I have been seeing many Nokia fanboys turning to other smart phone platforms like the Blackberry, Android, iOS etc. This is not a good sign for Nokia, cause its the same company which showed us sometime back how smart phones should be but today they don't think to care about how user's requirements are changing with time. Nokia faces competition from Apple and RIM in the US (actually Nokia was never so popular in the US); they are doing good in the Europe and the APAC market but Samsung is slowly taking over. The main difference being Samsung understands what the market's needs are and they are evolving whereas Nokia is still living in its past glories. Its high time for Nokia to change its stance or you might say strategy and take its rivals head-on. There are speculations that, Nokia's current CEO, Olli Pekka, will be stepping down from the post. There have news reports and analyst statements stating that, the Finnish giant needs a new CEO to revive its lost glory. When its comes to platforms, Nokia is more dependent on its homegrown.jointly developed platforms like Symbian,Maemo, MeeGo. Maybe its time for Nokia to evaluate other platforms like the Android or the LiMO. Nokia has its quarterly earning call lined up today and the company might talk about drop in revenues as well as its future plans. I am in no position to give advice to the company with respect to its CEO or advice related to choosing other platforms but hey guys you need to buckle up, the markets are changing and so are the user preferences.
