Nokia files a lot of patents every year, but not many of them actually materialize into products. Still, product companies make sure that they patent their technology so that i can be commercially used later. This time Nokia has filed a patent for pressure sensitive 3-D multi touch screen for mobile devices. The display is multi touch so it will give the user the ability to play around with the screen like they do on the iPhone. You can zoom in , zoom out, slide through smoothly, but the interesting part is that this new touch screen from Nokia will also have pressure sensors. The pressure sensors are able to measure the direction as well as the force of the pressure and it can be configured to perform different actions. Also, this display will only react to finger touch just like the iPhone so stylus's won't work here.


Nokia has been concentrating on its touch screen portfolio from the last 6 to 7 months as it is facing stiff competition from Apple's iPhone. The company has launched touch screen phones at every price range but it is not able to reach a user's expectation who compares every touch screen phone with the iPhone. With the above tech, Nokia can give a new fresh touch screen experience to the user. Using this tech on Nokia's Maemo based tablets like the N900 and the other forthcoming Maemo devices would help Nokia in gaining some momentum in the touch screen race.
