Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

One of its kind Mobile Phone Blog, that gives you views and news about mobile phones from India and across the world. I am in love with Nokia and their phones but I also write about other mobile guys. Think Mobile..Think NAMP!!!!

Nokia has launched its first N Series phone with QWERTY keyboard and touch screen, the N97. It’s been very few weeks when Nokia launched the N96 and now they have come up with this QWERTY and fully functional touch screen N Series phone. The design of N97 is like one of the HTC phone with keyboard sliding from the side. Makes me remember the T-Mobile sidekick. Few days back, Nokia had confirmed that they were indeed working on a touch screen N Series phone and also touch screen phones with N Gage support and now you have the N97. When the slider is closed the N97 looks a bit like the iPhone man, so is it the new iPhone killer. Earlier iPhone killers from Nokia have not actually done any harm to the market position of the iPhone, lest see how this one fairs.

The specs of N97 are pretty impressive with,
  • S60 5th edition OS
  • 3.5in touch screen with 640x360 (16:9) resolution and Haptic feedback
  • slide out QWERTY keyboard
  • 5 Megapixel snapper with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash
  • DVD Quality Picture Output
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • A-GPS
  • Nokia Maps 3.0 (topographical maps, satellite imagery, 3D renderings of popular buildings in over 200 cities)
  • Built-in compass (tells you which side of the map, that is loaded, you are facing)
  • N Gage Support
  • HSDPA
  • 32GB of built in flash memory
  • microSD card slot upto 16 GB supported ;-)
  • FM-radio
  • FM-transmitter (for sending music from the phone to a radio tuner)
  • 3.5mm headphone jack which can also be used as a TV out-socket.
Some of the other impressive features of this phones are a home screen with dashboard of your activities and widgets that sit on your home screen. The homescreen can be customized and seems to draw inspiration from the Panel kind of approach from Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. The phone’s keyboard actually moves with the help of hinges and not sliders. The phone is better when it comes to features than the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and will cost around Rs. 34,000 or 550 Euros. Being a N Series phone, N97 focuses on churning out exceptional multimedia experience and the 48GB memory (32GB on board + 16GB Memory Card support) backs it perfectly. Nokia N97 seems to be Nokia 5800 + high-end multimedia functions. What do you guys say? Feel free to comment.
