The recent economic recession has not spared the common man. As we know that even India is suffering from the downturn and government is urging for price cuts, the mobile phone industry is on some other track. Mobile phone prices in India are going to go up by almost 9% for users like you and me and they will go up by 4% at dealer level. The price rise is the result of the weakening rupee and we all know that most of the phones are imported to India. Maybe that is the reason Nokia’s target is not that aggressive this year. Nokia will also be increasing the price of around 10 models. Though there is a slowdown, companies like Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, RIM are launching their high priced phones in the Indian market, which comes to me as a surprise cause as of now there are very less takers to handsets like these. Nokia is also focusing on tapping the rural market in India by launching email services on low cost handsets.
