Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

One of its kind Mobile Phone Blog, that gives you views and news about mobile phones from India and across the world. I am in love with Nokia and their phones but I also write about other mobile guys. Think Mobile..Think NAMP!!!!

Chinese Mobile

Earlier I had posted about India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) coming hard on Chinese mobile phones as they do not have the unique IMEI number and they cannot be identified. Chinese mobile phones were used in recent bomb blasts that rocked India. Today DoT has announced that calls made using such Chinese made mobile phones will be banned in India and this will in-turn have a negative impact on the proliferation of these phones in the Indian market. Chinese mobile phones are selling well in the Indian market because these phones have all the functions that a user craves for and these phones are damn cheap as compared to their legitimate counterparts from mobile phone OEMs like Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. DoT will also come down hard on locally assembled mobile phones if they don't have a IMEI number. Chinese mobile phones in the Indian market are doing really well as these figures suggest:

  • Of the mobile handsets that are sold in India, 13.3% are Chinese mobile phones
  • 16.8 lac Chinese and locally assembled mobile phones are sold every month in India

With DoT taking these kind of initiatives, there will be some break on the speed at which anti-social elements are terrorizing India.
