Department of Telecommunications (DoT) India has finalized the 3G spectrum details. 3G services will soon hit the Indian mobile phone scene and with mobile companies having 3G mobile phones in their kitty, this is good news for them. DoT is ready with the final 3G policy that will be implemented in the country. One of the highlights is that, the policy will permit foreign 3G players. Now Videocon will be very happy with this news as, they had roped in a many 3G players in their newfound mobile phone adventure. DoT has also fixed a reserved price of almost $520 million for the 3G spectrum. The policy is almost finalized and will be announced soon by the Communications Minister. Even mobile guys like Nokia and Samsung, currently number 1 and number 2 in India, would be happy with this as they have many 3G phones in their portfolio that are anyways doing good in India and with the 3G services launching soon, the popularity of these phone will certainly shoot up. The final policy is somewhat contradictory to TRAI’s suggestion of not allowing any other players except existing operators. The 3G policy is supposed to come out next week, I will be all ears for that.
