The ghost of DoT (Department of Telecommunication, India) has again come back in the lives of RIM, Skype and Google. The Indian governement has asked these companies that they should share the email data with the Indian telecom and information authorities. If any of these companies fail to produce the data which is not complaint to the department's standards, Indian government might block or ban these companies to operate in India. As of now there is no official statement from any of these three companies but given the sheer size of the population, who use these services in India, I am sure the companies and the government would figure out a way around this issue. The issue between RIM and DoT is not new cause some time back the Indian government wanted to access secure communications that happen through BlackBerry's encrypted networks. Lets see how this one turns out. [Via]

Nokia and Skype, the popular VoIP service have teamed up and now Skype will be available on more than 200 million smart phones worldwide. Skype for Symbian is now available in the Ovi Store for download. The application will work over Wi-Fi as well as EDGDE, 3G and GPRS networks. This, I think is a very good deal from Skype's point of view given the fact that Ovi Store experiences close to 1.5 million downloads a day and with Symbian being one of the most popular smart phone OSs around, Skype on Symbian is a nice combination. Skype on Symbian supports, Free Skype to Skype calls, File Sharing, IM, chatting, Skype SMS and low cost international calls.
