The new Android phone or the T-Mobile G1 is launched and has a cute looking Google Logo on the back side, so now you know, to what extent this phone will be Googlified. The phone will cost $179 and will be available on October 22nd. Other features of the Android based G1 phone are built-in compass, a 3-megapixel snapper, a touch screen that slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, and a trackball for more precise, one-handed navigation. The phone has an embedded version of Google maps, which does not come as a surprise.

G1 has a built-in email client which syncs your contacts, email, calendar and contacts with GMail as well as POP3 and IMAP email services. But hey hold on, Google has also proved that they are open to have its competitors on the phone by supporting instant messaging from Yahoo, AOL, Windows Live Messenger and as speculated the G1 has a built-in support for YouTube. G1 also has a media player that connects to Amazon's music store. The phone also has a built-in accelerometer like the Apple iPhone. Till now Google was on your desktops and laps and with this phone, it will soon start ruling your pockets. So what makes the G1 special phone? The G1 is based on Linux operating system and any developer can develop applications for the G1 as it is fully open, atleast that's what Google is claiming. Developers can exploit the OS and build their own applications that will run on the G1.
