Nokia has launched its new Supernova range of handsets that had leaked sometime back. Supernova handsets are targeted at style conscious consumers or should I say the style conscious sexy ladies (by the way all of them are style conscious) after looking at the color patterns of the Supernova Series of handsets. Nokia has recently started coming up with handsets that fall in particular series, like they have their flagship N Series handsets and now this new Supernova Series. The Supernova Series comprises of Nokia 7510, Nokia 7610, Nokia 7310 and the Nokia 7210.

Nokia 7210 is a basic candybar handset with basic features and runs on the S40 platform. The phone has multimedia features like sharing photos thru Flickr, 2 mega pixel snapper, microSD slot, audio and video support. You can also buy songs from the Nokia Music store.

Nokia 7310 is a slim and sleek candybar with Xpress-On covers with 3D in 'steel blue' plus a second front and back cover in 'wasabi green' or 'candy pink'. Five front and back cover options like 'mushroom silver', 'plum jam', 'electric blue', 'yellow mellow' and 'espresso brown' will also be available in some markets, not sure as of now in what markets. Along with the FM and MP3 player, the Nokia 7310 Supernova has 2 mega pixel snapper with 4x digital zoom and TV out for image sharing, instant messaging and playing the preinstalled games on TV.

Nokia 7510 is a clamshell phone with push to open button and a camera on the folding panel. The phone comes with Xpress-On front and back covers in 'storm blue', 'red', 'emerald green' and 'espresso brown' the Nokia 7510 Supernova features magical light effects with a hidden-until-lit display and a reminder light. The phone has a 2 mega pixel snapper with internet friendly new Nokia mobile browser that helps the user to access to Nokia Search, Share on OVI and Flickr.

Nokia 7610 has a slide design and smooth curves, the Nokia 7610 Supernova offers Xpress-On covers in a choice of a set of 'steel blue' and 'red' covers offset by a muted gray front surface, or 'bright lilac' and 'steel blue' contrasted against a pristine white front surface. The innovative Theme Colorizer feature lets people identify and capture any color and further tailor a look by applying captured colors to the phone's key illumination and wallpaper. Additional features include a 3.2 mega pixel snapper with dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom, instant messaging and TV out for image sharing. The Nokia WidSets service gives access to enjoy and share content on favorite websites through the device.

All these phones have one thing in common, they all run the latest S40 6th Edition. This does not come near to the smart phone platform S60 but it has highlights of its own. The S40 6th Edition is focusing on enhanced JAVA technology. People ate Forum Nokia tell you more about the S40 6th Edition. I have tried to collate some highlights from that.
  • Series 40 6th Edition delivers exciting new opportunities for the creation of location-based applications, with the introduction of the Location API for J2ME™ (JSR‑179). This API can utilize an external Bluetooth GPS unit to obtain location information.
  • Series 40 6th Edition also provides improved support to Adobe Flash developers with the inclusion of the Flash Lite 3 Player. In addition to playing stand-alone Flash Lite content and applications and offering animated screen savers, Flash Lite can also be used to create animated "organic" wallpaper for Series 40 devices.
  • For Web developers, Series 40 6th Edition brings new opportunities with a browser based on the WebKit open source components WebCore and JavaScriptCore.
You would have understood by now that S40 6th Edition is more S60 like and promises to give the users enriching mobile phone multimedia experience.
