As you must be aware that foreign made mobile phones cannot be sold in Korea. But Korea Times reports that the Korean government will making things easy for mobile phone companies, which do not have their manufacturing facility in Korea. SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom have said that they are planning to sell foreign made mobile phones in Korea. These companies will be selling Nokia, Apple iPhone and Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Ohh, by the way South Korea is one of the few countries that use the CDMA platform unlike other countries who use GSM platform.
Louise Ingram, communications manager of Nokia's Asia-Pacific region said, “We have always said that we are open to exploring opportunities in Korea if and when there is acceptance from Korean telecom operators of Open Mobile Architecture.”
Nokia is hoping that their WCDMA platform and its core technologies on this platform will help Nokia in penetrating the Korean mobile phone market.
