Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

One of its kind Mobile Phone Blog, that gives you views and news about mobile phones from India and across the world. I am in love with Nokia and their phones but I also write about other mobile guys. Think Mobile..Think NAMP!!!!

After DoT's directive to ban Chinese mobile handsets in India, operators came up with a strategy where they would charge the customers so that a unique identification number would be allotted to each of these handsets. China made mobile phone cam under the scanner of the Indian government and DoT after the terrorist attacks on in India in 2008. Though DoT had said that it would axe some 25 million mobile phones, which do not have IMEI number, Supreme Court of India passed an order of not disconnecting these mobile phones but get the phones validated by installing a small software. This was a nice initiative, but for a huge country like India, doing this for all the 25 million Chinese mobile phones users is a herculean task. Now, operators have taken up the task of assigning a unique identification number to these mobile phone users. Operators are now altering the last six digits of the IMEI number. This will happen only if more than one handsets share the same IMEI number, which is very much possible with China made phones. So next time you buy a Chinese handset and insert a SIM card you will be asked for a unique six digit number and then the same will be incorporated with your IMEI number and a new number will be generated for your handsets. This is a real nice step by the operators, will be welcomed by the existing Chinese mobile phone users in India and also shows a big middle finger to terrorists.
