Does Nokia Tube has what it takes to beat the iPhone? This is the question that is popping in the minds of people from the day Nokia has launched the Nokia Tube a.k.a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, its first touch screen phone with the Symbian S60 touch operating system. Nokia phones have a good hold on the Indian market as compared to the iPhone and with the iPhone 3G launched at a high price, there were very less takers for the new iPhone than anticipated. The Nokia Tube will be launched at a price of Rs. 20,000, which from an Indian mobile users point of view is still affordable and people here in India do buy phones that lie in this price point. Let’s compare some of the vital features of both these touch screen rivals,
Nokia Tube / Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Apple iPhone
·         3.2-inch touch screen display
·         3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus
·         Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio
·         3G UMTS/HSDPA
·         Bluetooth 2.0
·         Wi-Fi
·         GPS
·         3.5mm headphone jack
·         TV-out port
·         140MB on-board storage
·         111 x 52 x 14.5 mm
·         104g
·         8 GB Memory including memory card support
·         3.5-inch touch screen display
·         2.0 megapixel camera (no autofocus)
·         Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio
·         No 3G for India
·         Bluetooth 2.0
·         Wi-Fi
·         No GPS
·         Proprietary headphone jack
·         Proprietary TV-out port
·         8GB or 16GB on-board storage
·         115 x 61 x 11.6 mm
·         135g
If you closely look at the features, Nokia Tube clearly outperforms Apple’s iPhone with its 3.2 mega pixel snapper, GPS functionality. The iPhone that is selling in India is a 3G iPhone but there are no 3G networks functional in India. The Tube is pretty small and light as compared to the iPhone and has a universal 3.5mm headphone jack unlike the iPhone proprietary headphone jack, which is actually a turn-off for many music buffs who use mobile phone as their PMP. But yeah, Apple’s iPhone also outperforms the Nokia Tube with its super cool looks, excellent touch screen interface, which is unbeatable and a variety of applications which are made for the iPhone and you can get them from the App. Store or just install them by jailbreaking your iPhone. Nokia Tube will be launched soon in the Indian market and I am sure that it will be a successful touch screen phone unlike the recently launched iPhone 3G, which doomed because of its high-price…..but as we know that there are still many takers of the iPhone and converting them to Nokia Tube users will be a challenge. Price will be the biggest deciding factor in this battle. What do you guys think about this? Let your views/comments pour in.

I will also add that iphone doesn't allow you to share pictures and music to other devices via bluetooth, doesn't allow you to forward sms which are considered and used as important basic feature by Indian teens... They don't care about DRM and stuff..
high price minus basic features it is a flop for iphone...

@JCrajan - Thanks for adding these points. I agree with whatever you say.

Upon seeing the features of Nokia Tube, I can also say that it can indeed rival the iPhone.

Will Nokia Tube be available in Asian countries?

Yeah Nokia Tube would be coming to Asian countries. As i have told before Nokia Tube and some of its touch screen phones have been targeted at the mid market segment and they would be certainly launched in countries like India and other Asian economies.
