Not Another Mobile Phone Blog

One of its kind Mobile Phone Blog, that gives you views and news about mobile phones from India and across the world. I am in love with Nokia and their phones but I also write about other mobile guys. Think Mobile..Think NAMP!!!!

We all are eagerly waiting for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). One of the biggest advantages of MNP is that you can keep the same number and still change your mobile services provider. No need to update your contacts with your new number. MNP will be finally coming to India after almost a year long wait. Big mobile networks in India have already set-up themselves to support MNP, which will be coming in the last week of Jan 2011 in India. Providers have also started showing ads and the benefits of mobile number portability, especially IDEA. Haryana saw a trial launch of MNP and slowly it will be rolled across major cities and town across India. Apart from Idea, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices and Reliance have confirmed that they are ready for MNP. But, apart from having the same number what are the other big advantages of MNP for an India mobile phone user. Some of us are happy with the plan we have from our current service provider but we might not be happy with the customer service they provide and hence we want to opt for MNP and change a provider. The one thing that we tend to forget is that, though you have the same number you are shifting to an entirely new provider whose data plans might not be that attractive as compared to your previous provider. So, service provides need to really come up with competitive data plans to cater to customers who opt for MNP and shift to their networks. For power users, it’s a difficult choice to make as they need to evaluate between the data plans of their current as well as future service provider, which is not easy. As MNP seeps in the Indian mobile scene, we will certainly see innovative campaigns and new data plans emerging. There will also be initial obstacles with respect to porting of SMS and other mobile messages to the new provider. But I am happy that MNP is here. There will be initial hiccups but at the end of the day it has to be a smooth process especially for the user, otherwise they will not see any value in opting for MNP.
