With the Nokia Booklet 3G launched the recently concluded Nokia World 2009, Nokia has entered into a completely new ball game. Nobody would have imagined that a company like Nokia would jump into the Netbook race. But Netbooks today are a craze and they start from 19,000 INR here in India. Nokia has surprisingly priced the unlocked version of their Booklet 3G @ 575 Euros, which is around 40,000 INR (You get nice high-performing Laptops/Notebooks in that kind of money). I am sure that the high pricing of its Booklet, is Nokia's way to keep competition minimum. If you look at the specs of the Nokia Booklet, they are pretty impressive at the first go with Windows 7, 12 hour battery back up time (which is massive, no power chords needed), 10.1 inch HD screen, HDMI slot and swappable SIM card feature, which is the most unique feature that the Booklet has in the current breed of Netbooks.
With the launch of this Booklet, Nokia is sticking to its mantra of long battery life and connectivity anywhere. The booklet has been designed by Connected Computers, a division in Nokia (I like their name, whats the point in having a computer/Notebook/Netbook if its not connected). Nokia has used components that enhance the battery life of the Booklet, at least that what Nokia people are saying and 3G/HSPA feature will keep the Booklet connected. Nokia has also mentioned that as of now battery life and connectivity are their two priorities with respect to the Booklet and may be going ahead they will look at having more graphics power and other stuff. Nokia is now gradually evolving into someone who offers devices that connect people, first its started with simple mobile phones then high-end smart phones, then Internet tablets and now the Netbooks. As the Booklet features a SIM card feature, the pricing will vary from region to region. I will be waiting for it to come to India and see if I am lucky enough or Nokia India is kind enough, to give it to me for review or something. As of now, Nokia has not mentioned about the availability date of the Nokia Booklet 3G. [Image belongs to The Nokia Blog]
