Sony Ericsson has recently announced that it will be the official handset of the FIFA World Cup that is going to be held in the year 2010. Sony Ericsson will also become the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup and under the agreement it will get access to some exclusive rights globally.
Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Head of Global Marketing said, “We are very excited about this announcement. At Sony Ericsson we feel we are uniquely placed to be a champion of football fans worldwide, using the marketing and promotional rights this agreement grants us to make Sony Ericsson handsets and accessories an integral part of the fan experience. Our role in football will be to use our sponsorship to innovate the experience of fans and give them greater access to football."
Sony Ericsson now needs this kind of visibility as it is not doing well in most of the markets and loosing market share in lucrative mobile phone markets like India and some markets in Europe. With this exclusive handset partnership with FIFA in the pipeline, Sony Ericsson is all set to launch many FIFA branded phone in the year 2009-2010. Sony Ericsson might also come up with a FIFA branded XPERIA with FIFA game loaded, you never know!!
