Its just 8 days remaining when the new 3G iPhone will be launched in US and many other countries. Last year when the iPhone was launched there were two highlights, it was costly i.e. $599 and people were waiting in a long queue to get hands on this innovative gadget. This year, on July 11, when the new iPhone is being made available to public, there are once again two things, the new iPhone is cheap i.e. $199 for 8GB model and people will have to wait for much longer time than last year. Now, there will be longer queues outside Apple stores as, AT&T will be activating the iPhone 3G inside their stores, consumers cannot activate them outside. So once someone goes in to buy, he has to wait till the iPhone gets activated. This, "activation inside store" strategy is Apple's and AT&T's way to stop the flow of 3G iPhone in grey markets. This time Apple and AT&T will do anything to stop the flow of unlocked 3G iPhones.
Fierce Wireless reports that, "AT&T has said that it will offer an unlocked version of the 3G iPhone "in the future," but it will be costly. An 8-gigabyte unit will cost $599, and a 16-gig model will cost $699--or $400 more than the subsidized version."
