The technology of flexible displays is pretty new to mobile phones. There have not been any mobile phones that have been launched commercially that sport a flexible display. Companies like Intel have applied for Flexible display patents, indicating that companies are working towards its and soon we might have mobile phones, sporting these kind of displays, available commercially. In late 2007, Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has showcased its flexible display technology. You might also see e-readers coming with flexible display technology giving you a feel of reading a book, novel, newspaper etc. Polymer Vision’s Readius mobile phone is into the stage of materialization and is supposed to hit markets by 2008 end. According to Engadget, this phone has a foldable, grayscale, 5-inch QVGA display, and boasts a slew of features, including HSDPA, a 400MHz ARM CPU, and a battery life up to "six times longer" than current mobile phone. As far as I know other companies have not launched such kind of mobile phones apart from Polymer Vision. Flexible displays in mobile phones will also become as a designer’s delight giving them an opportunity to innovate and improvise. Technologies like these will certainly shape-out the future of mobile phones and how people will use them.
